Jack Wilshere will quit his position as Arsenal Under 18s manager after two years in charge to begin his first post in senior coaching, with the 32-year-old leaving the club this week.

Jack Wilshere, currently the manager of Arsenal’s Under 18s, will join Norwich City as a first-team coach.

Wilshere joined Arsenal’s young teams in summer 2022 after graduating from their academy. Despite lofty ambitions of becoming a superstar, he was forced to retire at the age of 30 due to injuries.

The former midfielder began coaching under Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s youth manager, Per Metersacker. In his debut season, he guided Arsenal’s Under-18s to the FA Youth Cup final, but were defeated by West Ham.

His performance prompted the Colorado Rapids to interview him for the position of head coach, but he eventually declined a transfer to the MLS. Wilshere will now take his first steps into senior coaching at Norwich, joining the team of Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The 32-year-old will quit Arsenal on Wednesday and start in his new post on Thursday. He will succeed Narcis Pelach, who departed Carrow Road in September to take over as Stoke City manager. Norwich sports director Ben Knapper, who formerly served as Arsenal’s loans manager until October 2023, is said to have played a crucial part in bringing Wilshere to Norwich.

Arsenal’s Under 18s are presently sixth in the southern division of the Premier League league, with only one loss this season.

Norwich, meanwhile, sit fifth in the Championship in Thorup’s debut season as manager, having replaced David Wagner in the summer.

“Perhaps I was inspired by Arsene Wenger. Arsene was positive 95% of the time. The most important thing is to seek for small details in individuals who inspire you. In April 2023, he told The Athletic that Mikel motivated him to pursue coaching.
