Wayne Rooney wants Plymouth Argyle to move on quickly from Cardiff City drubbing

“Despite our best efforts and preparations, we were outclassed by a stronger team. We cannot investigate anything regarding my

nonattendance from the touchline or similar matters. All we need to do is move on quickly from it.”

It was the Pilgrims’ second devastating away loss of the Championship campaign, following their 4-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday in

their first league game of the August campaign. “Obviously, that is concerning because we can’t keep having blips like this,” Rooney

said. In every aspect of the match (against Cardiff), we came in second.

Rooney said: “Of course it’s difficult watching it from the stands. You want to be there on the side of the pitch and trying to help the

team but that was the punishment which I received.”

Argyle assistant head coach Pete Shuttleworth was in the technical area for most of the match and Rooney was able to get regular

messages to him. Rooney said: “You can communicate. That’s something we do every game with different members of staff so there is

no problem with that.

“Everything we planned and prepared we tried to do and we were just beaten by a better team. I don’t think we can look at anything

from me not being on the touchline, or anything like that. We just have to move on from it quickly.”

It was a second very heavy away defeat of the Championship campaign for the Pilgrims, who lost 4-0 at Sheffield Wednesday in their

first league game in August. Rooney said: “We were second best in all aspects of the game (against Cardiff) and of course that is

concerning because we can’t keep having blips like this.

“We know you will lose football games in this league, I’ve told the players. We experienced it at Burnley and West Brom, but we

participated in the games and were unfortunate not to win anything.

“(On Saturday) I felt we got off to a good start in the first ten to fifteen minutes, but after that, we were completely out of the game. It

was difficult to accept and disappointing, but as I said, we must move on.” When Argyle plays their next game on Wednesday night at

The Den against Millwall, Rooney will be back in the technical area.
