Tom Cleverley given huge Watford injury boost ahead of Leeds United clash

Watford boss Tom Cleverley was able to welcome back four key players in their defeat Luton Town at the weekend.

The Hornets, who were beaten 3-0 by their arch rivals, head to Leeds United on Tuesday night with a point to prove

after a disappointing display at Kenilworth Road.

Cleverley was able to call on Edo Kayembe who was a doubt heading into the game, while both Dan Bachmann and

Giorgi Chakvetadze recovered from minor injuries to play. The Hornets, who dropped out of the play-offs as a result

of that defeat, have been one of the surprise packages at the top of the division this season.

They signed a number of experienced players over the summer, with former west Ham United centre-back Angelo

Ogbonna among those to have signed on the dotted line at Vicarage Road. He was another to have responded well to

treatment after picking up an injury in their game against Middlesbrough, starting in the middle of the back three at

the weekend.

Francisco Sierralta, who was a 50-50 for the game, was back on the bench and could be involved from the off against

Leeds United. However, Jeremy Ngakia and Antonio Tikvic, who both missed the defeat to the Hatters are also

doubts for this game, with the latter of the duo still getting up to speed.

Kevin Keben is also out of the game against Leeds after undergoing surgery on his knee, with Watford short of

options at the back.

“There will be an inquest into what we can do as a coaching staff to make the players realise where we fell short,” said

Cleverley after the defeat. “But for me it’s an away form thing at the moment and it’s something we really have to

address.

“We’re far from home, we’re not making an effort to play football, and we’re not doing a good enough job of

overcoming the obstacles and struggles. That leads to unsteady performances, and it is entirely my duty to ensure

that the team maintains its identity when playing away from home.

“We need to start accumulating some outcomes. The one encouraging thing about these performances is that we

both responded effectively against Norwich and Preston. That is something we must repeat on Tuesday.
