Blackburn Rovers: John Eustace reveals double injury blow ahead of West Brom

Kyle McFadzean and Amario Cozier-Durberry were left out of the Blackburn Rovers team that defeated Swansea City 1-0 on Saturday due to injury, according to manager John Eustace.

Blackburn returned from their two-week break from games with an incredible victory after suffering back-to-back defeats that sent them into the international break.

They finished the game with three points, but they were by no means completely in control of Luke Williams’ team. Rovers, who have won half of their first ten games, are presently in the play-off spots and only four points behind league leaders Sunderland.

2024/25 Championship table (as of 21/10/24)
Team P GD Pts
1 Sunderland 10 11 22
2 Burnley 10 12 21
3 Leeds United 10 10 19
4 Sheffield United 10 7 19
5 West Brom 10 6 18
6 Blackburn Rovers 10 5 18

Amario Cozier-Durberry and Kyle McFadzean’s absences are explained by John Eustace.

Without Cozier-Durberry and McFadzean, two potentially important possibilities, Blackburn won.

According to Eustace, the 19-year-old winger had a chance to start the match against Swansea before he was knocked down, and the veteran defender had to have hand surgery.

According to the manager, McFadzean may be eligible to play despite this surgery keeping him out of action for Blackburn’s midweek matchup against fellow play-off/promotion contenders West Bromwich Albion.

After the Rovers’ victory, the head coach stated, “Amario has hurt his ankle and Fadz has had a small operation on his hand,” according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

“He continued to train and be accessible despite a little hiatus a few weeks ago. He underwent minor surgery and may be away for ten days or so.

“We might look at Amario instead of Fadz on Wednesday, in my opinion. He obviously suffered an injury during yesterday’s exercise. He was almost ready to begin today. I felt Ryan Hedges was excellent for sixty minutes, which is unfortunate for the young lad.

The former Birmingham City manager isn’t getting ahead of himself, despite the team’s present position. He does, however, believe that the group should feel quite confident about the manner they have launched the new campaign.

“I think it is important that this group of players really believes in themselves,” stated Eustace. “We have now dropped two of our last ten games, so we are progressing well.

“We aim to get 50 points as soon as possible, but there is a lot of work ahead. That’s the only thing on our minds.

“Although we are off to a strong start at 18, the Championship is unforgiving. Getting outcomes and ensuring that we continue to go in the correct direction are the main goals.

“The Championship is subject to sudden changes. You can lose three or four straight games, or you can go five or six games without winning.

“It is just important that you don’t get too carried away with the highs and lows, and realise that the Championship season is a 46-game season.”

Blackburn expectations do need to be moderated.

Few predicted that Rovers would be in the running for the playoffs after selling Sammie Szmodics, the player who single-handedly kept them from relegation the previous season. They were in such a dangerous situation at the time that they required two goals from the now-Ipswich Town player on the last day against Leicester City to ensure their safety.

Despite losing their finest player, Eustace, the players, and the front desk staff at Ewood Park appear to have turned the club’s fortunes around in a single summer.

Almost everything is going well, but the boss is correct that we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves just yet. In the past, we’ve witnessed other teams get out to strong beginnings before gradually losing ground. Take a look at Cardiff City’s current situation and where they were at this time last season.

Things can change drastically in an instant. Fans of Blackburn, enjoy the moment, but keep in mind that nothing will stay the same forever.
