Thoughts on Juventus’ “Deserved Victory” Against 10-Man Lazio by Thiago Motta

In Saturday’s fiercely contested Serie A match, Juventus ultimately took a 70-minute numerical lead to defeat Lazio 1-0. Mario Gila’s own goal in the 85th minute was necessary for Thiago Motta’s team to win a valuable victory against a 10-man opponent at the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus was never expected to have a field day. However, the record-holding Italian champions should have had an easy route to victory following Alessio Romagnoli’s red card in the 24th minute. For the home team, it was everything but easy sailing.

Juventus was unable to overcome Lazio’s resolute defense despite having 69% of the ball and 1.58 xG until Gila came through for them in the last minutes.By no means did the Bianconeri put forth a convincing display.

However, following a 1-1 tie with Cagliari prior to the international break, they got back to winning ways. Juventus spent the night at the top of the table, despite being tied with Napoli, who will play Empoli this afternoon, due to their undefeated Serie A start under Thiago Motta.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Juventus head coach told Sky Sport, “We found a team that closed very well, it wasn’t easy.” The boys have occasionally acted a little frantically, believing that it is better to create one chance than five for nothing.

“The goal was timely, but scoring against a club like this is difficult.”Well-earned triumph,” Motta emphasized.

Juventus can look forward to their next matchup with Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League after keeping another clean sheet in Serie A.
