The Amazing Rise of Ipswich Town: How American Investment Changed the Club

U.S. Investment and Ipswich’s Revival

Marcus Evans sold Ipswich Town to a U.S.-based corporation called Gamechanger 20 in April 2021, resulting in a change in the club’s ownership. The investors bought the club for £30 million, and Evans wrote off £100 million in debt. Early in the transition, chief executive Mark Ashton—who played a key role in the deal—described it as a time of coming to terms with a team that had “no asset value on the pitch and was declining into oblivion in mid-League One.”
