Duk sees Celtic penalty ‘mentalists’ eviscerated by ex ref as escalating Aberdeen conspiracy theory gets IFAB check

The Dons’ attacker denied the Scottish champions a winner amid late VAR controversy at Celtic Park.

Former SFA referee Bobby Madden has backed referee Nick Walsh and the VAR team following criticism for failing to give Celtic a late corner against Aberdeen. Duk was the hero at the defence for Jimmy Thelin’s team, flung his body in front of Alistair Johnston’s low shot in injury time after goalkeeper Dimitor Mitov had first clawed Adam Idah’s header from point blank range out of the goal. The Aberdeen attacker cleared the ball for a corner, which whistler Walsh initially awarded deep into 10 minutes of added time before VAR intervened to examine for a probable handball.

Greg Aitken and the staff in Clydesdale House cleared Duk of the infraction, and with 102 minutes remaining, the full-time whistle blew. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with Brendan Rodgers’ decision to allow his team to take the corner late in the game.

Madden took to Instagram to address the allegation. He wrote on Instagram, “Need to clear up a couple of things with the penalty claim in the 12th minute of the MINIMUM 10 minutes of extra time.”

“The evidence clearly shows that the ball did not strike the Aberdeen defender’s hand. The ball strikes the defender’s thigh first, then his body. That’s a fact. However, this occurrence must be reviewed by VAR, and it has been. “Immediately following the incident, the ball is sent out for a corner.” However, the game has ended because time has run out. What the referee cannot do is blow full time and have players leave the pitch, personnel enter the pitch and fans leave the stadium while a check is being conducted.

“Can you imagine blowing for full time and then saying, ‘Oh, we have an on-field review?'” There would be bloodshed. That is why, just like yesterday, a protocol is in place to manage it. The game was delayed for over a minute while the check was performed. The full-time whistle was blown when the game was finished and no penalties were verified.
