BBC NEWS: Rangers to face ‘weakened’ FCSB side in Europa League meeting as eccentric owner intervenes

BBC NEWS: Rangers to face ‘weakened’ FCSB side in Europa League meeting as eccentric owner intervenes.

The insane owner of FCSB is supposedly preferring home games above European games right now. Rangers will allegedly face a depleted squad when they meet FCSB in the Europa League next week. The club’s somewhat eccentric owner, Gigi Bacali, does not believe the fixture is the most significant on the team’s horizon because they have domestic problems to deal with. While their continental form has been good (now fourth in the 36-team table), they are just seventh in the Romanian Super Liga.

Journalist Emanuel Rosu wrote on X that “FCSB owner Gigi Becali says he will field a weakened team vs Rangers in the Europa League to help his side bounce back in the domestic league”. Rangers face a trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday before the European fixtures, while FCSB travels to FC Dinamo Bucuresti.

Bacali reportedly also stated: “Until now, I wasn’t interested in the fact that we were playing with Dinamo or Rapid; I was just saying that it was about 3 points. Slowly, slowly, I came to grasp the fans’ fervour and to argue that the games against Dinamo are more important. Plus, in football, you have to appease the supporters; I haven’t seen these. Now I’m beginning to understand. This will be the best team.

“We will prepare some guys for Rapid. I mentioned that we were managing Rangers’ players in Scotland. The same side that will compete against Dinamo will also face Rapid. In the Cup with Dinamo, the team that will face Rangers will compete, not the stars. Any European match played at home is intended to gratify the supporters, who paid millions of dollars for tickets in the hopes that their club will win.”
