Duk sees Celtic no goal split the pundits as ‘harsh’ Aberdeen handball sparks definitive VAR defence

Jimmy Thelin’s team believed they had won the duel in Glasgow’s east end.

The decision to remove Duk’s strike for Aberdeen during their remarkable comeback against Celtic has caused controversy among pundits.

Jimmy Thelin’s team recovered from a 2-0 deficit against the Scottish Premiership champions, and appeared to have won late in Glasgow’s east end when the top two teams squared battle. Aberdeen defender Slobodan Rubezic scored a free-kick from the left, which deflected off Dons’ forward Duk and went past Kasper Schmeichel with the game tied at 2-2.

VAR ruled the goal off, causing a huge letdown for Celtic. After referee Nick Walsh had first greenlighted the goal, Greg Aitken in the VAR room would chalk it off and maintain the game tied. However, not all pundits were convinced by the verdict. Billy Dodds of Red TV commented, “I can’t see anything in it. It will be forensic and brutal. If you’re playing handball, the regulations apply. “It’s a huge decision for Celtic.”
