Leeds United host Sheffield United at Elland Road in the Championship for the first time since 2019, where Marcelo Bielsa lost out on promotion to Chris Wilder and Daniel Farke.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds side are looking for automatic promotion this season instead of the playoffs, and they face probably their biggest home test yet in the form of Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder’s side looked set for a slow start after a chaotic summer window, but the Blades boss has managed to oversee a strong early showing with zero defeats and six successive clean sheets thus far.

Leeds United v Sheffield United form mapped out

Both sides are looking at finishing in the top two this season after last term ended in disappointment, and are proving their credentials as things stand.

The Blades have picked up the most points in the division so far this season, but are not far in front of Leeds with just a three-point gap as things stand.

What the two sides have in common this season after nine games is a very solid defence setup, shown in the numbers:

Daniel Farke needs to correct woeful record v Sheffield United

Having previously gone toe-to-toe with the Blades for promotion in 18/19, Farke’s Norwich City side won the league ahead of Wilder’s men in second, while Marcelo Bielsa came third and eventually lost in the playoffs.

However, the German’s record specifically against the South Yorkshire club is not good from his six meetings against the Canaries.

Farke’s first game against the Blades came in September 2017, and that was his only win in half a dozen attempts – a 1-0 away win at Bramall Lane thanks to Yanic Wildschut.

Since then, five games all against Wilder have not yielded victory, only drawing once while losing the other four.

During the Norwich’s title-winning season in 18/19, Farke’s side lost in August at the Lane, while drawing back at Carrow Road in late January.

When the two sides faced off in the Premier League the season after, Wilder edged out wins by a single goal home and away as they finished in the top-half, while Norwich slumped to 20th.

With a renewed promotion-based rivalry against Wilder, Farke will need to find better results.
