Nottingham Forest battling to sign “physical” £8.5m ace compared to Awoniyi

Following an impressive start in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest are supposedly vying with West Ham United to recruit a South American gem.

Those in the Midlands did well in the summer, signing Nikola Milenkovic, Ramon Sosa, and Jota Silva, all of whom have had promising starts at the City Ground. Those additions have resulted in a near-perfect start for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, which has only lost once, to Fulham, following an amazing run that includes a win against Liverpool at Anfield.

Espirito Santo’s side will now try to prolong their strong start past the international break and into the festive season, beginning against struggling Crystal Palace on Monday night. It’s not unreasonable to believe that those at the City Ground are on track to cause quite a shock by the time May and the end of the campaign arrive.

They will then most likely return their focus to the transfer market, possibly signing a South American star. According to Graeme Bailey of The Boot Room, Nottingham Forest are currently vying with West Ham to capture Rayan, whom Vasco de Gama is willing to sell for as little as £8.5 million in 2025.

The 18-year-old right-winger dazzled in Brazil and may now follow in the footsteps of several other South American talents who have made similar transfers. That, of course, includes both Carlos Miguel and Murillo, with the former arriving in the summer transfer window to provide Espirito Santo with much-needed depth in shot-stopping.

While Rayan is unlikely to challenge for a starting spot at the age of 18, his progress should be followed closely, whether at Brazil, Nottingham Forest, or West Ham.

“Physical” Rayan is someone to watch.
Rayan, despite his youth, is already making an impact on Vasco de Gama’s first team, having scored two and assisted once in a promising 2024 season. That glimpse of quality in an otherwise failing Vasco side has put the winger firmly on Forest’s radar, and he might be the ultimate bargain for £8.5 million in 2025.

Rayan has gained many supporters in Brazil, notably South American football analyst Nathan Joyes, who describes the winger as a “phycial, bulldozing forward” with “similar qualities to Taiwo Awoniyi”.

Forest will attempt to get an advantage over its Premier League opponents by recruiting Rayan as a future star in 2025.
