Celtic in ‘bust-up with broadcasters’

Celtic in ‘bust-up with broadcasters’.

Celtic have ‘drawn a line in the sand’ by withdrawing from a contract that gave subscription channel Premier Sports the rights to 20 Scottish Premier League games.

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie told Football Insider that the club’s decision not to play late Saturday games is “great” for fans. Sky has the rights to broadcast 60 Scottish Premier League games this season, with a maximum of five visits per stadium, including two at Celtic Park. An arrangement to offer a supplemental package to Irish broadcaster Premier allows them to broadcast up to two more games from any Scottish Premier League stadium.

Celtic’s right to put fans over money

Celtic were given £75,000 for each additional home game, up to a maximum of £150,000 for two, but were unwilling to inconvenience match-goers by moving more 3 p.m. Saturday kick-offs to later timings. Celtic’s top-of-the-table battle with Aberdeen will no longer be aired after the club dropped out of the arrangement to prioritise match-goers, although fans may watch the game on the club’s in-house channel, Celtic TV.
