Sunderland make January transfer decision – O’Rourke

Sunderland will have finances available in the January transfer window if they remain in promotion contention, according to Football Insider sources.

Regis Le Bris told Football Insider on Monday (14 October) that he wants to be heavily backed if it helps his quest for Premier League football.

Le Bris and club officials are reluctant to disturb the young nucleus of the group that has been successful this season, but it is anticipated they will make changes to the squad in January.

The Black Cats now lead the Championship, ahead of heavyweights such as Leeds, Sheffield United, and Burnley.

If they are still within striking distance of the top two in January, they will go ahead with a calculated transfer blitz.

Sunderland have the funds to make significant changes following the high-profile sales of Ross Stewart and Jack Clarke in previous months.

Jordan Henderson, a former Liverpool midfielder, is one of the targets.

On Monday (14 October), Football Insider stated that Henderson is willing to rejoin Sunderland if a deal with Ajax is reached.

Le Bris’ side made ten acquisitions during the summer window but only paid transfer fees for two of them.

The Black Cats will next face Hull City on Sunday (20 October), followed by Luton Town the following week (23 October).
