Nassef Sawiris handed £810m boost as Aston Villa eye further success.
Over the previous 12 months, the co-owner of NSWE has seen a significant growth in his net worth.
Over the past year, the personal wealth of half of Aston Villa’s owners has increased by £810 million.
The financial situation at Villa Park will improve if the current success is maintained, just as Villa’s on-field
circumstances under NSWE ownership have improved, with the team already making a name for itself in this
season’s UEFA Champions League after returning to the top table of European football for the first time in 40 years.
When the 2024 Forbes Soccer Valuations List was released back in May, Villa’s worth jumped 6% to £640 million,
year over year. By the time the May list is out in the following year, that number will probably have increased much
more, possibly by double digits.
Under the parent firm NSWE, billionaires Wes Edens of the United States and Nassef Sawiris of Egypt hold Villa.
Sawiris holds the position of chairman.
Villa has experienced significant competitive success over the last 12 months, which should translate into better
financial results over the following 18 months or so. However, Sawiris has experienced a notable increase in his
personal riches during the past year.
As the richest person in Egypt, Sawiris, 63, owns 39% of the Dutch fertiliser business OCI. In addition, he owns 6% of
Madison Square Garden Sports, the holding company that oversees the New York Rangers NHL franchise and the
NBA team New York Knicks NBA team. He also holds stock in the massive sports manufacturing corporation Adidas.
He also owns a variety of holdings in other industrial companies.
Investors frequently aim to have a broad portfolio, and Sawiris seems to be following suit as he and Edens acquired
Villa in 2018, ending Tony Xia’s dominance.
According to Bloomberg’s billionaires list, Sawiris’s net worth increased to $9.46 billion (£7.28 billion) in the last 12
months as a result of his investments. That’s a $1.05 billion (£810 million) rise from the previous year, putting him at
292nd on the global wealth list and among the wealthiest investors in European football.
According to Bloomberg, his equity in Villa is valued at $156 million (£120.1 million), making it the smallest portion of his wealth at the moment.
Edens is not on the Bloomberg list, but he is the 734th richest person on the planet based on Forbes’ most recent list
of billionaires. Edens is an American who founded the Fortress Investment Group and is a co-owner of the
Milwaukee Bucks NBA team. His net worth is estimated to be around $2.4 billion (£1.85 billion). The co-owners of
NSWE are valued at approximately £9 billion.
