“Might surprise a few people” – Norwich City “menace” tipped to compete at higher level

After the October international break, Norwich City will be hoping to continue their recent strong performance.

Before the recent break in league play, the Canaries had won three and drawn one of their previous four league

games.

Several players have stepped up for Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team following a sluggish start to life under the Danish

manager, who was hired over the summer.

Fans will be hoping that the team can continue to play well and contend for a top six finish this year.

Norwich earned a play-off place last year but missed out on promotion after a semi-final loss to Leeds United.

Marcelino Nunez higher level claim

When asked which player at the club should be playing at a higher level, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes

claimed that Marcelino Nunez has the best case.

While he believes the likes of Josh Sargent, Borja Sainz and Callum Doyle could all be picked as well, he feels Nunez

has the most capability to take a step up a level at the moment of the squad’s permanent members.

“The one player that I think should be playing at a higher level is actually [Marcelino] Nunez,” Downes told Football

League World.

“That might surprise a few people, but I think that the better the team is around him the more he shines.

The Championship side are among those being linked with Bright Osayi-Samuel

“He literally never stops sprinting; he keeps going throughout the entire game.

He is a real threat, constantly biting the heels of the opponent, a man who truly gets a lot of things done but is often

overlooked.

“You could certainly mention Sainz, Sargent, and perhaps even Cordoba, but Doyle is the clear winner because he

isn’t performing to the standard that he should be.”

“But I’ll go with Nunez among the players who aren’t on loan.”

Nunez, who is currently in his third season at Carrow Road, is becoming more significant under Thorup’s direction.

During his first two seasons at Norwich, the Chilean international made 73 league games, making 48 starts (all stats

courtesy of Fbref).

However, under Thorup, he has started all nine league games and scored two goals.

The 24-year-old is an integral component of the Danish coach’s plans, and their chances of getting promoted this

year may depend on him continuing to play well.

Marcelino Nunez has stepped up under Thorup

Nunez was a valuable member of the squad under David Wagner, but he has become a fixture of the side since

Thorup’s arrival.

If he can maintain his current form over the course of the full season, then it could even attract potential suitors from

higher divisions, provided Norwich don’t gain promotion.

Thorup has earned a lot of praise in recent weeks for the impact he’s had at the club, and the emergence of Nunez as

a key figure is an important aspect of that.

Sargent and Sainz have also shown plenty of quality so far this season, and supporters should be optimistic for their

hopes this year given the talent available in this squad.
