Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick shares Tommy Conway injury update before Bristol City

Michael Carrick has addressed the media before of Saturday’s Championship match between Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

When they visit Riverside Stadium this weekend, Michael Carrick will be hoping to break his unwelcome record against the Robins.

In the 2023–24 campaign, Bristol City defeated Middlesbrough, who had only triumphed once in their previous seven Championship meetings with the North East team.

The Reds advanced to ninth place in the Championship table with six points out of a possible nine prior to the international break.

Boro were in the play-off places for a brief time but a 2-1 defeat to Watford allowed the Hornets to climb into the top-six over the Teessiders.

As a result, three points is a must this weekend, especially as Bristol have won just two in nine so far this term.

Michael Carrick provides Middlesbrough injury update

Bristol City is expected to lose to Middlesbrough this weekend, but Carrick should know that’s easier said than done.

The Boro manager gave a side injury report at a media conference on Thursday before the encounter.

Tommy Conway might have a new role for Michael Carrick when Middlesbrough returns.

Conway made the move to Teesside in August, joining from Bristol City for a fee of £4.5m.

Prior to his recent injury, the striker had largely played in a number 10 role behind Emmanuel Latte Lath.

With Chuba Akpom in this capacity, Carrick saw great success in the 2022–2023 season, as Middlesbrough finished fourth.

Conway has looked threatening while playing in this less comfortable position, but the Middlesbrough manager might bench the Ivorian in favour of the 22-year-old given Latte Lath’s form.

Since Latte Lath hasn’t scored in an open play this season and Middlesbrough has one of the lowest shot conversation rates in the Championship, it might be time for an up-front substitution once Conway returns to full fitness.
