Celtic respond to Champions League suspended fan ban as pyro message is sent loud and clear

Any further fireworks displays will result in the Hoops traveling to the continent without their fans to follow them.

Celtic send a clear statement after receiving a suspended European away fan ban.

The Parkhead team was also fined €20,000 by UEFA when their fans let off fireworks prior of their 7-1 Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund. And the prospect of having no followers on the road in Europe is now looming after the European governing body imposed a two-year suspended ban on selling away tickets to its own fans.

That means fans will still be able to watch their team face Europa League winners Atalanta in Bergamo next week, but any more fireworks displays will only be allowed at home games if this new warning is heeded. In response, the club has emphasized the repercussions of breaking the pyro rules once more, with a handful of European travels still to come this season.

It read: “The club has received the judgment issued by the UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body following the match against Borussia Dortmund, in which the Club was sanctioned, once again, for the lighting of fireworks by a small number of individuals attending the stadium.

“The verdict states that not only has the club been fined €20,000, but if such behaviour is repeated during a match in the next two years, the club will be barred from selling tickets to supporters for one away fixture in UEFA club tournaments.

“Over the years, the club has made it abundantly clear that the use of explosives and pyrotechnics during matches is strictly illegal and poses a risk to both supporter safety and the Club under applicable legislation.

I”t is hugely disappointing, therefore, that the conduct of a very small minority has led to this decision, which could potentially have such a negative and damaging impact on the team and Celtic supporters wishing to attend an away match to support the team.”
