Despite recent Premier League links, Carlos Corberan has expressed his desire to lead West Brom to success and stay at the club for the long term.

Corberan’s tenure at West Brom has seen the team rise from the bottom of the Championship to the play-offs, with a promising start to the current season.

Corberan’s impressive performance at West Brom has led to speculation of a move to the Premier League. Last month, the Sunday Mirror reported that Southampton were considering Corberan as a replacement for Russell Martin following a poor start to the season.

The teenage winger’s form from last season has carried over into this season, and he is already producing assists from the sides.

According to Football Insider, Corberan has a £2 million release clause and is expected to be a target for Championship rivals Leeds United if Daniel Farke leaves.

However, the Spaniard is content with life at The Hawthorns and determined to return the Baggies to the Premier League for the first time since 2021.

Corberan will have been at The Hawthorns for two years at the end of October, and it is evident that the former Leeds assistant manager sees his long-term future with the club, despite recent interest from other clubs.

Corberan stated in a recent interview with the Birmingham Mail that extending his career with the club would be his ultimate goal. “It would make me very happy.”

Corberan also explained how he planned to take a sabbatical from football management after being fired by Olympiacos in September 2022, but when a club of West Brom’s reputation approached him, he couldn’t refuse.

He stated, “After I stopped, the next weekend I had an opportunity to coach a team from another nation. I earned another opportunity to return to the Championship. I was thinking it wasn’t the right time; I was going to prioritise my family, give them time I wouldn’t have had otherwise, and relax. Then a few of Championship clubs expressed interest, but no bids.

“Then I wanted to travel to Spain and recuperate. Then came the choice to go to West Bromwich. I said, ‘Come on, let’s go there and do our best. The day I travelled to Spain, I received a call to have an interview with West Bromwich. I didn’t visit my family and friends because the day I was meant to spend with them was also the day of the interview! I arrived here. My mood altered right instantly.

“If I hadn’t had recollections of West Bromwich as a Premier League team and the impression they had on me while I was with Leeds in the Championship, I may have said no; it’s still not the right time. Because it’s West Bromwich, I told my wife I couldn’t say no to them! I need to go. “I can’t say no to this.”

Corberan is clearly enjoying his time at The Hawthorns, which is understandable given the Baggies’ start to the season. The choice to employ him following his disastrous term at Olympiacos may have been a gamble, but it was one that paid off, and they appear ready to reap the benefits in the coming years.

West Brom must maintain Carlos Corberan at any cost.

Fortunately for West Brom fans, Corberan appears to be happy and settled at The Hawthorns, but it would be a nightmare if he chose to go midway through the season.

Prior to his arrival, the Baggies were bound for League One, and two years later, they are contending for Premier League promotion, presently in fourth position, just two points below top spot.

Championship table
Position Club P GD Pts
1. Sunderland 9 10 19
2. Sheffield United 9 9 19
3. Burnley 9 10 18
4. West Brom 9 6 17
5. Leeds United 9 8 16
6. Watford 9 0 16

West Brom made the play-offs last season in extraordinary circumstances considering their financial difficulties, but they’ll be hoping to go one better this season and earn automatic promotion, which is surely not impossible.

It’s simple to understand why Corberan is so well-liked by Baggies fans; he’s done an excellent job at the club, and the leadership should do all in their power to keep him at The Hawthorns for the foreseeable future.
