Norwich City started work on Callum Doyle deal in February

Lee Dunn, Norwich City’s head of recruiting, stated that negotiations to sign Callum Doyle began as early as February.

Norwich City is now undergoing considerable changes both on and off the pitch.

It’s been an exciting start to life under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup. Callum Doyle, a summer loan acquisition, has played a significant role in the Canaries’ early success, as they have collected 10 points out of 12 possible.

Doyle is on loan at Carrow Road from Manchester City. Many would have assumed a step up awaited following his involvement in Leicester City’s promotion but the Norfolk outfit were able to pull off the spectacular heist.

Lee Dunn, Norwich City’s head of recruiting, has spoken with the Pink Un about the club’s procedure in signing the new star. He said:

“I contacted his reps in February, and Manchester City in March. And it continued till the end of last season.

“Then, when it became evident that we needed to recruit this profile for our game model, it was a really rigorous time of seeing the player and presenting to Manchester City, because, ultimately, he is a Manchester City player.

“We needed to pitch our strategy to them in terms of how he would fit in, how we could assist him grow, and how Johannes would play.

“Similarly, with Callum, you have the opportunity to meet the player at the proper time. Callum came to the training facility, and we presented to him. Obviously, Johannes is the most crucial person he needs to visit. And from that point forward, it’s all about closing the transaction.”

Norwich City is currently ranked 7th and aiming for promotion this season. Doyle is grown used to promotions in his career.

Despite his youth, the 21-year-old has received many promotions. In the last three seasons, he has been promoted twice: first to the Championship with Sunderland in 2022, and then to the Championship title with Leicester City last season.

Doyle was not brought in for his expertise, but the Canaries will benefit from having this season.

A tough week ahead.

After the international break, Norwich City aims to resume their previous performance.

Thorup’s team will play Stoke City away, Preston North End in midweek, and Middlesbrough at home to complete a three-game week.

After a 4-0 win over Hull City before the break, the Canaries are confident in their play-off campaign.
