This season has been bad for Crystal Palace, but one man’s magic has saved Oliver Glasner from absolute embarrassment.
The Eagles have now gone six Premier League games without a win and sit firmly in the relegation zone, all despite pre-season ambitions of pushing for European football after a 10th-place finish last campaign.
Crystal Palace have struggled both defensively and offensively – with losses to other relegation contenders being a real blow this season. This was the case again when Everton beat the Eagles 2-1 over the weekend.
The three draws have come against Chelsea and Manchester United along with Leicester City. Dougie Freedman’s failure to adequately replace Michael Olise is a mark on his record for this very reason as the Eagles have been terrible going forward.
Now, Eberechi Eze is the only magic maker Oliver Glasner has at his disposal.

While Eze is currently not playing excellently for the Eagles, he is without a doubt the most talented footballer at the club.
However, after the way this season has started for Crystal Palace – his future may once again be unclear.
According to a report from Football Insider, Eze will once again be a target this coming summer for some of the Premier League’s elite.
It is explained that Eze could actually push for an exit from Selhurst Park in 2025 – which could force Freedman and Steve Parish into negotiating over the fee and potentially even a cut-price sale – despite his £68m release clause.
Spurs are the destination to which Eze is reported to be considering pushing for a move to. This is following summer 2024 in which Tottenham were very keen on Eze.
How Crystal Palace would cope with losing No.10
Eze has a very important role in Crystal Palace’s team right now as he is effectively what everything good goes through and without him, the Eagles would likely be on even less than three points.
So if he were to depart then a quality replacement would be required – however, we do not trust that this would happen considering the failure to replace Michael Olise.
For Freedman, there is one positive – this is that he will feel he already has an Eze replacement at the club in Matheus Franca who cost £26m in 2023.
Franca has been injured frequently since his move which has damaged his development and sees him now over a year at the club and only 12 appearances made to date.
That being said when he has played, we can clearly see there is a player there so perhaps he is the long-term solution.
