Leeds United, Stoke City and Norwich City make ‘regular’ transfer checks on League Two starlet

The rise of Archie Gray underlines Leeds United’s ability to nurture young players into top talent

Leeds United have conducted “regular checks” on Port Vale starlet Karl Agnero. According to TEAMtalk, several Premier League and Championship clubs are interested in the all-action midfielder, including the Whites, Stoke City, and Norwich City.

Agnero has received numerous accolades at Vale Park following a series of standout performances with the Valiants Under-18s. The 16-year-old’s remarkable climb to notoriety ended in him making his first-team debut for the League Two club in an EFL Trophy match against

Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s last month.
According to the article, the Whites want to strengthen their academy by signing young players who can someday move up and thrive in the senior ranks. The ascent of Archie Grey demonstrates United’s ability to develop young players into great performers. Grey exploded onto the scene last year, making over 50 games as the Whites almost lost out on promotion back to the Premier League. Grey excelled at right-back and central midfield, enticing Tottenham Hotspur to pay £40 million for his services this summer.
Despite cashing in on Grey, United still has plenty of options in the centre of the park. They have signed Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka to their roster. Tanaka will make his debut appearance away to Norwich tonight after joining Fortuna Dusseldorf following Ethan Ampadu’s injury setback. Ampadu is expected to miss the rest of 2024 after sustaining a significant knee injury in Saturday’s stunning home victory against Coventry City.

Manager Daniel Farke can also depend on Ilia Gruev and Charlie Crew in the midfield engine room. Darko Gyabi, a former Manchester City youth, is currently on a season-long loan with Championship opponents Plymouth Argyle.
