Talks today: Sevilla in pole position over Everton to sign Man United star Hannibal Mejbri

Football Insider has been informed by sources that Sevilla is in the lead over Everton to sign Hannibal Mejbri, an attacking midfielder for Man United.

Although it’s said that both teams have made loan bids to the Red Devils for the 20-year-old, the La Liga team is now in the lead. Football Insider has been informed by sources that Sevilla is undertaking fresh negotiations today, January 10, in an attempt to finalize the agreement.

Football Insider was informed by sources on January 8 that the Toffees would need to pay a “seven-figure” loan fee in order to acquire the Tunisian and pay him his entire salary.

Mejbri has earned just 327 senior minutes for Erik ten Hag’s side this season but has been a frequent member of their matchday squads in the Premier League and the Champions League.

He has made 10 appearances in all competitions and bagged his first-ever Premier League goal in United’s 3-1 home defeat to Brighton in September.

Man United see him as part of their long-term plan as they recently triggered a clause to extend his contract by a year. Hannibal was the subject of interest from several clubs in the summer and had the opportunity to join Turkish giants Besiktas on loan. After a productive loan with Championship team Birmingham City the previous season, he chose to remain at Old Trafford and compete for his spot. After three straight losses, Everton is currently ranked 17th in the Premier League standings. On Sunday, January 17, they take on Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
