Mason Holgate receives brutal Rangers transfer truth from Sean Dyche as struggling Everton star told ‘that’s life’

After moving to Southampton on loan last summer, the center defender has been kept on the outside of the team.

Sean Dyche has informed Mason Holgate that his Southampton loan is exactly what he wanted, despite rumors that the agreement would be terminated to enable a move to Rangers.

Everton was reportedly planning to cancel the defender’s loan at Southampton this month, according to reports from south of the border. The defender has only made five appearances this season, the latest of which was on November 11. According to reports, Rangers is one of several teams “waiting in the wings” to sign the 27-year-old on a short-term contract and bring him to the Scottish Premiership.

Holgate has struggled to claim a regular spot at Goodison Park and openly admitted after making the move to St Mary’s that he didn’t feel like boss Dyche would be likely to give him another chance – opening the door for a second loan exit this term. However, the Liverpool Echo report that there are financial complications that are set to halt and recall from the south coast.

The Saints are said to be paying a substantial part of his wages and are committed to doing so for the full length of the season-long loan deal they agreed with Everton. With the Toffees already facing scrutiny over their finances from the Premier League, it appears it would not be as simple recalling Holgate in order to help him get a game elsewhere.

The finances of the deal are important to a club trying to operate with financial responsibility. Therefore, agreeing to end the loan would see the Blues lose Southampton’s contribution towards Holgate’s salary. And the report states the only way the situation is “resolved positively for all parties” would be if another club came in for him and agree to take on the same wage agreement as Southampton.

And Dyche appears to have put a massive question mark over whether Holgate will escape his nightmare Southampton spell. Asked if there had been talks over a recall with the English Championship side, the Everton boss said: “No. The player made it clear he wants that fresh feel about going somewhere else, a new challenge.

He expressed a desire to fully immerse himself in it, and I have no doubt that he will. I am aware that he hasn’t played as frequently as he would have liked, but that’s a fact of life for a professional. He is currently a player for Southampton.”

Russell Martin, the Southampton manager, believed that Everton should decide what happens next. “I honestly don’t know (if he will be here at the end of the month),” he said to the Daily Echo. I don’t think he’ll be content to not play much.
