Unai Emery faces bold £55m Aston Villa decision ahead of Manchester United clash

Following a run of recent quiet performances, Moussa Diaby should be dropped to the bench, by Unai Emery, against Manchester United.

As the season draws to a close, Aston Villa is presently occupying third position in the Premier League standings. As of this writing, they are tied for second position and behind Arsenal by just one point in the top rank.

The Villans have flourished under Nou Emery’s leadership and appear to be vying for a Champions League position.

With wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in the past few weeks, Villa have shown their credentials as a top side. This Boxing Day they travel to face a struggling Manchester United side as they look to potentially go top.

As Villa line up at Old Trafford, one star should be dropped in favour of being utilised from the bench later in the game.

Why Moussa Diaby should be dropped

It’s reasonable to argue that Diaby has been among Villa’s top players ever since joining from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £55 million in the summer. Emery has called him “fantastic” as a result of his seven goals in fifteen starts.

He has repeatedly shown that he is worth the £130,000 per week Villa lost on buying him. His abilities have enhanced the team, particularly in the early part of the campaign. Leon Bailey has been excellent this season, to put it mildly, and Diaby has brought out the best in him.

Looking at his goals against Newcastle United, Burnley and Luton Town, the quality that he possesses is clear for all to see. With that being said, he hasn’t shown his full ability in recent weeks which has left Villa fans frustrated.

Looking at his performance against Sheffield United, he was only worthy of a 6.5 FotMob rating. Despite having completed the most dribbles in the game, he failed to create a chance and had just one shot on target. Given the quality or lack of, the opposition possessed fans were expecting better.

We think he should be an impact player against a worn-out defense by starting off the bench against Manchester United. He did so to level the score against Bournemouth when he entered the game and grabbed an assist.

One of Villa’s top players, Diaby is undoubtedly a talented player. He needs a chance to contribute to games as a substitute and gain some experience.
