Pundit in ‘alarming’ Man Utd vs Aston Villa prediction

The most recent Aston Villa news is available on BirminghamLive as the Premier League rivals get ready for tonight’s match at Old Trafford.

Chris Sutton thinks that because of their “alarming problems,” Villa won’t need to play at their peak to win at Manchester United.

United’s season is off to its worst start since 1930 with a 2-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday. Erik ten Hag’s team has only managed one victory in their last seven games across all competitions, with a total of just 18 goals scored this season.

Villa, on the other hand, is coming to Old Trafford having won their past seven league games. Unai Emery’s team hasn’t lost since their November loss at Nottingham Forest, and they currently sit in the top three.

Therefore, even though Villa drew 1-1 at home to lowly Sheffield United on Friday, Sutton has backed Villa to continue their winning streak, predicting a 1-0 victory for the visitors in the evening competition. “It will be tight, but I think Aston Villa will win this game – and I don’t see Manchester United scoring for what would be a fifth game in a row,” he wrote in his column for the BBC.

“Manchester United have only managed 18 goals in 18 league games so far this season. Sheffield United are the only top-flight team to have scored fewer, which tells you Ten Hag’s side have alarming problems in attack.

“So why would anyone believe that they could just flip a switch and give someone a thud all of a sudden? It’s not like they’re passing up amazing opportunities while producing a ton of chances. Villa is a well-rounded team that can produce outcomes even when they are not playing at their best.

“Their away form has not been as spectacular as their results at home, but they probably only need one goal to nick this.”

United is currently eight spots off of the top four Champions League qualifying spots heading into the match, 11 points behind Villa in the Premier League standings.
