Unai Emery Questions VAR Interventions: It was ‘Too Much’
After six different inspections during the match against Sheffield United, Unai Emery declared that VAR was “too much” as his
Villa team lost the chance to top the Premier League for the first time since 2011.
Tonight, VAR was used far too much. Although I accept VAR, it was excessive. That was not necessary for the aim. “Generally,
we can accept this goal,” Emery remarked following Leon Bailey’s goal being ruled out due to a previous foul committed by
Jacob Ramsey on Wes Foderingham.
With moments remaining, it appeared as though former Villa striker Cameron Archer had given the Blades their first away
victory of the year, but Villa’s header from Nicolo Zaniolo saved a point.
In the end, that was a really good point. Emery remarked, “I have to accept the draw.” The Spaniard w
ent on, “We are
disappointed with the outcome, but we must accept it.”
As his club advanced off the bottom of the table, Chris Wilder acknowledged that he is a “traditionalist” and declined to
participate in the VAR discussion.
