Liverpool’s next five Premier League matches compared to Aston Villa, Arsenal and Man City
After being held to a stalemate by Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League match that is atop the table, Liverpool faces difficult challenges at the end of the year and the beginning of 2024.
Liverpool’s 1-1 tie with Arsenal on Saturday prevented them from being the first team to top the Premier League tree come Christmas.
After just four minutes, Mikel Arteta’s team surged out of the traps and took the lead, led by Gabriel Magalhaes. Before the half, Mohamed Salah would equalize the score with a brilliant strike, and despite an intense second half, the Reds were unable to overwhelm the visiting team.
Not only was the game marred by controversy and dejection, but Liverpool was also refused a penalty when Martin Odegaard handled the ball in the box while his team was leading, and Kostas Tsimikas had to be substituted due to an apparent bad shoulder injury.
As a result, Arsenal maintains their lead in the league on Christmas Day, a status held by 10 of the last 14 English champions.
After failing to take advantage of the chance to go two points ahead of their London rivals, Liverpool now trails in second place. Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and the reigning champions, Manchester City, follow in third and fourth place, respectively, on goal differential.
Looking to push on as they head toward the famous Boxing Day fixtures and the New Year, here are the challenges that Jurgen Klopp’s men and their competitors have on the horizon…
