“I Felt Like The Onside Kick Was The Right Play.” – Saints HC Dennis Allen On Attempted Onside Kick As Team Loses To Rams

Thursday Night Football saw the Rams deliver a crushing blow to the Saints, and Baltimore will be

anxious to see how their remaining two games go in order to secure a postseason spot.

The Saints, trailing 30-7 in the fourth quarter, were eager to turn things around this season and even

tried an onside kick in a bid to regain possession.

Dennis Allen, the head coach, feels that even though there has only been one successful onside kick in 31

attempts this season.

We ran out of timeouts with three minutes remaining in the game, Allen estimated.

I thought the onside kick was the proper move because, up until that moment, we hadn’t done a fantastic

job of stopping them. Since we were going to have to stop them regardless of the outcome, we tried to

tie the score by going for the onside kick in an attempt to try and get it.

With two games left, the Saints are at 7-8, while the Rams are at 8-7 and still have a chance to

qualify for the postseason.

Since the NFL just changed its kickoff positioning rules, it is becoming increasingly difficult to

score an onside kick. It’s like trying to find an Eagle dollar in a flea market.

“With the way they make you line up and everything, they’re tough to get in our league now,” Allen remarked.

Before facing the 49ers, who are the clear favorites to win the league, the Rams must defeat the Giants.
