Rangers may have to pay £35m misfit a big wage if they sign him on loan

If Rangers are interested in signing Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Fabio Silva on loan, they may need to

pay a substantial amount in salary, as Old Firm rivals Celtic are the first to initiate discussions.

The folks in green seem to have taken the lead over those in blue, following rumors from Portugal that suggested we would be

in for a classic Rangers vs. Celtic match with Fabio Silva’s signature as the prize.

According to Football Scotland, Wolves and Celtic have “made contact.

” If Rangers intend to follow suit and make acquiring a striker one of Philippe Clement’s top priorities during

the January transfer window, they must first determine whether the transaction is financially feasible.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, an Italian reporter, any club looking to sign Silva on loan from January to

June must part with around one million euros in wages. As such, should the Portugal U21 international arrive at Ibrox on

January 1st, he would set the Glasgow giants back around £17,000-a-week, if our calculations are correct.

Of course, Silva could repay that investment with a glut of goals, Rangers looking to build on that League

Cup triumph and snatch the Premiership title from under the nose of their local rivals.

Rangers want Wolves benchwarmer

Silva, who once joined Wolves in a £35 million deal from FC Porto while still a teenager, actually scored 16 goals last season during loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven.

Pedulla notes that Monza and Genoa, two Serie A teams, are also interested. Rangers will have to fend off competition from both domestic and international sources in order to give a chance to a striker who has played just 17 Premier League minutes for Wolves since mid-September. A number of Bundesliga and La Liga clubs have also been linked.

Following Danilo’s tragic knee injury a few weeks previously, Clement declared, “(Signing a striker) will be one of the priorities.”

Kemar Roofe has since joined Danilo in the treatment area. Cryiel Dessers and Abdallah Sima could also be lost to the Africa Cup of Nations for Clement.
