Aston Villa ‘robbed’ as VAR let Sheffield United off by Disallowing Goal After Error

In Friday night’s Premier League match between Aston Villa and Sheffield United, Leon Bailey’s goal in the second half was disallowed by yet another contentious VAR ruling.

After VAR disqualified their opening game against Sheffield United, Aston Villa supporters were incensed.

In the 59th minute, Leon Bailey side-footed home a squared ball from Ollie Watkins at the back post, giving the Villans hope

that they had broken the tie. However, referee Anthony Taylor disallowed the goal after advising him to consult the VAR monitor.

Replays revealed that Jacob Ramsey had fouled goalkeeper Wes Foderingham by grabbing his arm, making it evident that he had been dragged back during the build-up to a corner.

But even when Foderingham flapped at the ball, the Blades were dispossessed, and Watkins’ cross had a chance to score.

Additionally, Villa supporters felt that there shouldn’t have been such a large delay in starting play following the incident, and

they were furious at how long it took.

“Aston Villa have been robbed, I can’t believe what I’m seeing,” exclaimed one X user, while another raged, writing, “Absolutely awful decision.”

A third said on Twitter: “VAR is terrible! It has to go,” a fourth said, “What a shameful choice!
