Journalist moots Aston Villa & Monchi transfer change after new update

Dan Bardell moots Aston Villa transfer strategy change under Monchi, could follow Brighton model

Dan Bardell suggests that Aston Villa may consider adopting Brighton’s strategy of acquiring younger players by pursuing Oscar Gloukh of RB Salzburg.

On December 11th, Football Insider revealed that Villa is attempting to reach an agreement with the Austrian team in order to sign the 19-year-old attacking midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Israeli international, who signed with Salzburg for £6.1 million from Maccabi Tel Aviv in January, is viewed by the Villans as a player with “top potential” and as a possible “great fit” for Unai Emery’s ambition at Villa Park.

Bardell believes the club needs to start looking at recruiting players such as Gloukh in a bid to build a team that can continue to compete in the future, sharing one link he has heard.

When asked if they should go after the attacking midfielder, Bardell, who was speaking exclusively to Villa News, said, “I’m not sure, to be honest.” It’s not quite clear what Villa intends to achieve in terms of transfers. Really, the only thing I’ve heard is fullback.

“In my opinion, Villa should generally look to sign individuals and then loan them back to demonstrate their effort. They should also look to attract young players of similar caliber, particularly with Monchi now on the team. It won’t be a player who immediately makes the first team.

“I think Brighton has done a good job of creating a group for the future in addition to signing young players from Europe who may not play for a year or who return on loan. They’re assembling a team for the here and now, but they’re also looking ahead.

“I believe that’s something you might see Monchi and Villa begin to do, but not with the intention of having them play for the first team within the next 12 months.

“I would be completely in favor of Villa conducting business, but perhaps not with players who will be ready to play right away.”
