Transfer News: Barça to make splash, Chelsea ready to sell 3, Aston Villa after underrated CB

Will Barcelona sign a new superstar? Who will Chelsea sell this winter? And could Aston Villa sign a new center back from the Bundesliga?

All of this and more in the latest transfer rumor update.

Aston Villa after Anton

VfB Stuttgart are in contention to qualify for the Champions League against the odds, and striker Serhou Guirassy has been earning a lot of looks for his rapid goal-scoring pace.

However, Guirassy isn’t the only one catching the eye of clubs around Europe. Aston Villa are reportedly in the driver’s seat to sign Stuttgart center back Waldemar Anton.

Villa have been major players on the transfer market since Unai Emery’s appointment as manager, as the club is making moves and pushing under a manager known for great European football success.

Pau Torres, for example, was a major coup at center back, having starred under Emery for Villarreal.

Anton isn’t quite at that level, but he is one of the top center backs in Germany. He is in his prime at 27 and having a strong season with 2.6 combined tackles and interceptions per match. At the right price, he could be a great signing for Villa.

Chelsea ready to sell 3 players

According to a report from ESPN’s James Olley, Chelsea are willing to sell a number of players in the January transfer window in order to make way for Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred signings.

Chelsea have made a ton of investments – many unwise – since Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club, but they are still willing to back Pochettino on the market. That’s surely for the better, so long as they make the right signings this time around as part of an overall plan.

The three players Chelsea reportedly are willing to sign are all talented young prospects who should garner plenty of interest. Trevoh Chalobah (a key Roma target), Ian Maatsen, and Noni Madueke are all expendable in the Blues’ eyes.

Madueke is the one that stands out the most, since Chelsea signed him last year with a lot of hope regarding his long-term upside. Maybe it was too much, too soon for Madueke, who has been unable to stand out in London.

Barcelona want a superstar

Barcelona are reportedly ready to pursue a superstar in the coming summer transfer window.

It won’t be easy for Barça to afford one economically, but there are actually some possibilities.

Ballon d’Or-caliber Bayern star Leroy Sané is one dream option, his teammate Joshua Kimmich is another, and even a swap deal for Jadon Sancho has been rumored.

Girona are pushing for the league title, Real Madrid got stronger by signing their own superstar in Jude Bellingham, and the Champions League title still feels too far away.

It would make sense for La Blaugrana to want a big signing for a shakeup instead of taking fliers on veterans or young prospects.

Let’s see if Barcelona can find the right move and cobble together funds for a player who can help them both in the short and long-term (unlike Robert Lewandowski).
