Transfer News: Aston Villa watching rebound candidate, surprise investment for Brighton, Tottenham find hidden gem

Will Tottenham go for another undervalued Serie A standout? Could Brighton make a surprising splash from Juventus? And should Aston Villa take a flier on a talented underachiever?

Here are all the latest transfer rumors and news from the Premier League.

Tottenham scout Dragusin

Tottenham sent scouts to watch Juventus play Genoa so they could observe Radu Dragusin up close. The former Juve prospect is starting for Genoa this season as they make their comeback to Serie A.

With a 1-1 draw, Genoa was able to steal a point from Juventus, who are presently battling it out for the title with rivals Inter Milan. Dragusin didn’t particularly stand out on the ball, but he did a respectable job covering defense during the game.

In the 2023–24 Serie A season, the 21-year-old center back has been dribbled past just 0.1 times and is averaging 1.1 interceptions per game. As a vital member of Genoa’s squad, Dragusin is having the best season of his career in the Italian first division.

Right now, Genoa sit 14th in the table, safely above the drop. Dragusin has started in all 16 of their league matches.

Tottenham have a couple of great center backs in Cristian Romero and inspired summer signing Micky van de Ven. However, they need more depth.

Dragusin is a cheap, young option with huge future potential. Like Romero, he could be another former Juve prospect at CB to make it big in North London.

Brighton to sign Iling-Junior?

Brighton are reportedly contemplating an 18 million euro offer to Juventus in order to sign wide midfielder Samuel Iling-Junior.

With superstar Federico Chiesa and 2022 signing Filip Kostić as options on the left flank, Iling-Junior has found it nearly impossible to get the consistent minutes he needs to develop in Turin.

Iling-Junior was a promising talent for the Bianconeri in an otherwise dismal 2022/23 season, though he has been unable to parlay that into a more regular role this season. Therefore, he is a candidate to do much better with a move.

Brighton have a great track record of signing young talents and developing them. They may have the best scouting eye in world football right now, especially with Roberto De Zerbi working his magic tactically.

A plus athlete who never stops working, Iling-Junior could be a workhorse wide player for the Seagulls and give them the depth they need as they look to maintain a European place for the 2024/25 season.

Aston Villa monitor Kehrer

Former Schalke prospect Thilo Kerher was so promising as a young, versatile defender that he earned a move to the Qatar-backed PSG. However, Kehrer failed to make an impact there, and he has been playing for West Ham since then.

Worse yet for the German international, Kehrer has been unable to make an impact for the Hammers either. Kehrer has played a laughable 18 minutes in three appearances for West Ham so far in the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Aston Villa is reportedly interested in the 27-year-old center back because of his dearth of playing time at West Ham, according to a report from Sky Sport Austria.

Kehrer has skill and might be a cheap, worthwhile risk for Villa even though he is currently far from a prospect and a chronic underachiever.

In the worst case, he is a cheap mistake. He is, at most, a major defensive depth piece and an unexpected addition to a club that has a chance to win the Premier League.
