Unai Emery’s plotting changes for last Villa group clash

When Villa finishes their Europa Conference League group stage campaign against Zrinjski Mostar tonight, Unai Emery is prepared to make a change.

Villa only needs a point in Bosnia to secure first place in Group E and a straight-forward trip to the competition’s last-16; a loss would allow Legia Warsaw to pass them. The Polish team’s last group matchup is against AZ Alkmaar.

Emery has tinkered with his line-up throughout the competition and will continue the policy, though both Douglas Luiz and Lucas Digne could start as they are suspended for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Brent ford.

Jacob Ramsey should make his first start of the season, while Alex Moreno should also feature at some point as he is Digne’s most likely weekend replacement.

Leander Dendoncker, Jhon Duran, and other players are vying for infrequent starts, while record acquisition Moussa Diaby ought to start after making three Premier League substitute appearances.

“We achieved the initial goal to advance to the subsequent round,” stated Emery. “We want to try and use different players, but we also want to finish at the top of the group. I’m not sure how many different guys we will play.

“We also have Douglas Luiz and Lucas Digne out on Sunday due to suspension. It’s an additional justification for attempting to include more players.
