Peter Crouch says club selling £15m Arsenal target in January would be ‘utter madness’

Peter Crouch believes that Douglas Luiz leaving Aston Villa in the January transfer window would be madness as the midfielder continues to be linked with Arsenal.

Douglas Luiz has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season. And he has absolutely played his part in Unai Emery’s side putting themselves amongst the title contenders.

Certainly, his form appears to have caught the attention of Arsenal as they launch their own title charge this season.

Luiz will most certainly find it difficult to leave the Villans anytime soon. Additionally, Peter Crouch said on TNT Sports (airing on 14/12 at 17:18) that trying to cash in next month would be a grave mistake.

“I genuinely believe that going in January would be just insane for both parties. Douglas Luiz may move on, but it would be absurd of Villa for it to occur in January. He said to TNT Sports, “I think they need to hang onto him to see what they can do.”

Arsenal will be holding out little hope for January

Arsenal will surely be aware that signing Luiz in January is highly unlikely anyway. Joe Cole suggested after Crouch’s comments that the 25-year-old should cost a similar amount to the likes of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo based on his form this season.

They have shown in the past that they are prepared to bide their time when it comes to pursuing their top targets. The Gunners signed Jorginho last January before making their move for Rice in the summer.

It would therefore require extraordinary circumstances for Arsenal and Villa to reach an agreement that would allow Luiz to relocate to the Emirates.

This season, the Villans are also vying for the championship. Thus, when the transfer market opens, it makes even less sense to cash in on the midfield player.

Villa should concentrate on the transactions that could get them closer to pulling off one of the biggest upsets since Leicester City’s victory.

Furthermore, trading the £15 million guy would not bring them any closer.
