Everton Interested in Bringing new left-footed Defender to Goodison Park

In the upcoming weeks, the Toffees hope to add to their options on the back end.

Although Everton has been linked to a new defender, a recent rumor has indicated that other teams are also interested in signing him to a Premier League contract in January.

Sean Dyche’s current left-back options

As things stand, Ashley Young and Vitaliy Mykolenko are the Toffees’ two obvious left-back options. However, there’s a potential that the former may be leaving in the forthcoming window or next summer for two specific reasons.

The 38-year-old Goodison Park stalwart’s short-term contract (Everton contracts) is also set to expire at the end of the season, so if he isn’t given the opportunity to stay on after the season ends, Sean Dyche might have to go out and find a worthy replacement.

If that is the case, Gent’s Archie Brown has emerged as a potential target, with the 21-year-old having only put pen to paper at his new club four months ago from Lausanne-Sport, where he’s so far made a total of 18 appearances to date

(Transfermarkt – Brown statistics).

The Belgian Pro League star already has experience under his belt playing in England having grown up in the academy at Derby County, and if the following update is to be believed, he could be heading for a return to his homeland with three clubs monitoring his situation.

Everton keeping tabs on Brown

The Daily Mail claims that while Everton is interested in Brown, they will also have fierce competition from teams in a few other nations before January.

Everton and Burnley are among the clubs keeping an eye on former Derby youngster Archie Brown. And the English left-back is now back on the radar of sides in England as well as from Germany’s Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A. As well as Everton and Burnley, Championship Leeds are also monitoring Brown.”

Brown is a real prospect for the future

While Brown is naturally a defender, he’s much stronger in the attacking aspect of his game where he’s posted 43 contributions (24 goals and 19 assists), from 136 appearances since the start of his career, displaying his desire to get involved in the final third.

The 6 foot 2 left-footed ace loves to break down the side, dribble past his marker, and whip balls into the box. He has also registered 51 crosses during the current campaign, which is the second-highest total among his team (FBRef – Gent statistics).

In addition to his versatility at left-back, Brown can also play center-back and higher up in the midfield. This makes him a player to watch because Dyche and Everton will be drawn to his ability to cover for injuries that may occur in positions other than his own.
