Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s monster extension hinges on key moves, per Jerry Jones
Entering a pivotal 2023–24 NFL season, Dak Prescott could have a significant effect on his long-term career with the team.
Though there are still postseason questions, he has clearly performed well in the Dallas Cowboys’ first 13 games.
The seasoned quarterback will now start receiving payment.
But at the NFL’s annual meetings, owner Jerry Jones brings up a few outstanding issues.
“Now here’s the thing: moving assets is involved, which makes it sensitive,” he said to Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins.
That’s just what happens; Dak isn’t the cause of it. We’re expecting a new contract since it’s delicate, so that’s all taken into consideration. We are aware that [restructuring] will occur.
You can’t have everything. To finish it, various tweaks will be necessary.
Prescott will enter the final year of a massive four-year, $160 million deal in 2024-25 that is already limiting the Cowboys’
financial flexibility. A contract restructure could give them desperately-needed relief that can keep the roster strong and
balanced. Some players will also likely have to be released to clear room for what figures to be a historic extension.
