Jim Harbaugh’s lucrative contract extension at Michigan is in the works, but there’s an unusual catch.

Michigan is apparently focused on keeping its head coach while Jim Harbaugh and the

Wolverines get ready for their semifinal College Football Playoff game against Alabama next month.

For the second consecutive season, Harbaugh has been connected to the NFL, and in the upcoming

summer, a number of teams may consider selecting the former coach of the San Francisco 49ers as a replacement.

Richard Johnson of Sports Illustrated reports that the institution is negotiating a five-year deal that could bring the experienced coach’s annual salary up to $11 million.

However, it is purported that the agreement would include a clause prohibiting Harbaugh from applying for NFL jobs while it is in effect.

Following the completion of a three-game suspension imposed by the school at the beginning of the season due to NCAA recruiting violations, Harbaugh was once more facing a three-game suspension at the end of the season as a result of an investigation into a sign-stealing scheme involving Connor Stalions, a former low-level staff member.

Though Harbaugh first disputed the suspension, he eventually consented to the prohibition.
