I’m Shocked at his Performance!… Martin Keown completely shocked by £12m Aston Villa player against Man City

Martin Keown was taken aback by one player on an incredible night for Aston Villa against Manchester City.

While analysing the match on the BBC’s Match of the Day, Keown was astonished by how brilliantly one defender was playing out of place.

Ezri Konsa, a player who has improved steadily this season, has left the analyst utterly impressed.

When talking about the game, Keown expressed his happiness at seeing Leon Bailey succeeding, which he believed was well-deserved.

Keown said: “By the way, he’s a centre half playing right back, you’d never believe it.”

He continued: “And I feel this guy [Bailey] is really going from strength to strength, deserves a little bit of good fortune.

“He’s been a bit unlucky at times getting injuries, and he gets that ricocheted, but it’s what their play deserved tonight.”

Of course, Konsa has played almost the entire season as centre-back, only to switch out wide against the title holders.

Unai Emery is never afraid to make a tactical tweak, just look at Moussa Diaby sat on the bench.

And his plan did reap the rewards intended.

Martin Keown thought Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa vs Manchester City was outstanding.

Perhaps Konsa will have been particularly pleased to excel at right-back last night with the England squad in mind.

Gareth Southgate has often said that he will favour versatile players for this squad for the Euros this summer, one that is reduced in numbers.

And Unai Emery really is now giving his £12m defender the best platform possible.

Given that several Villa players wore claret shirts versus City, Konsa was excellent.

And even if they are currently climbing to previously unheard-of heights in the league table, nobody appears to be phased by it.

Furthermore, the match this weekend versus Arsenal appears to be well-positioned and full of storylines.

In addition to Unai Emery facing his past, this game features two legitimate title contenders.
