Sky Sports Omari Hutchinson shows true colours with eye-catching celebration against ex-club Chelsea.
Omari Hutchinson spent five years at Chelsea across two spells, but he did not hesitate to celebrate in style after scoring Ipswich Town’s second goal on Monday. Hutchinson has a history with Chelsea, where he spent five years of his early career in two spells. The 21-year-old forward joined Chelsea in 2008 after being dismissed twice by the club at a younger age, and following periods at Charlton and Arsena, he returned in 2022.
He only made two first-team appearances for the Blues before going on loan to Ipswich for the 2023/24 season, which would shape his career. Hutchinson enjoyed himself so much at Portman Road that he decided to sign permanently after the Tractor Boys were promoted to the Premier League, paying £20 million in the summer. And he returned to haunt his former club on Monday night, scoring the second goal against Enzo Maresca’s team to put Ipswich ahead. Liam Delap opened the scoring from the penalty spot following a foul by custodian Filip Jorgensen, and Axel Disasi’s sloppy pass set up Hutchinson to double the Ipswich lead.
Hutchinson took his goal well, drifting between Chelsea defenders before rifling a crisp finish past Jorgensen into the bottom corner. He did not think twice about his celebration, quickly launching into a hand-spring and back-flip combination.
His choice of celebration received widespread attention on social media. “I knew Hutchinson would score against Chelsea. “Boy had something to prove,” one fan commented. “Chelsea thought Hutchinson is one of their own,” another laughed, and a third simply commented, “Poetic justice!”
