Josh Hader’s 9th Inning Mindset Has Seemed to Change Now That He’s Not With Padres

Josh Hader, a seasoned closer, left the San Diego Padres this summer and signed with the Houston Astros. The Padres will use a variety of relief options to cover for Hader, who was always going to leave this winter.

Hader’s reluctance to pitch in any circumstance that didn’t directly involve trying to get a save has been one of his criticisms. Several people have chastised him for it, saying it cost the Friars several games when he was there.

However, his mindset seems to have shifted now that he is with the Astros. Maybe the $95 million he signed on for was the deciding factor for him.

Hader sure sounds like a team player now that he has left the Padres. He wants to win, and nobody is questioning that, but it’s a little odd of a response.

For now, he might be saying all the right things to make a good impression on the team, but the Padres organization is probably getting frustrated. Despite his outstanding performance the previous season, they didn’t bring him back for a reason. Nothing is guaranteed, but Hader will make the Astros incredibly dangerous in the last innings. Things are going well in Houston for the time being, but he can revert to his odd behavior in the future.
