Arne Slot joked last week that Liverpool might recall Ben Doak.
Middlesbrough are convinced that Liverpool will let Ben Doak to finish the season at the Riverside, despite Arne Slot’s remark last week about recalling the young wide winger.
Doak has swiftly established himself as an important player for Boro this season, and he was missing at the weekend because Michael Carrick decided not to risk him owing to a tight hamstring caused by weariness. Boro demonstrated their responsibility to the teenager’s parent club by resting the winger.
However, although Slot joked that Liverpool may recall Doak in January due to rising injuries at Anfield, Carrick claims the Scotland international is settled at Boro, with the club confident that the Reds would not exercise their recall clause when the winter transfer market opens.
When asked about Slot’s quip and typical chats with Liverpool, Carrick said: “There are always conversations with loan players, especially younger players. Some of it is larger than the others.
We have a duty of care to look after him and help him become a better player, which will help us improve as well. Ben has settled in well. We have tremendous options down that side of the pitch, including Izzy and Marcus [Forss]. “So everyone will do their part.”
Isaiah Jones ultimately struggled to match Doak’s impact against Coventry as the Boro academy graduate experiences a difficult period of form. But, while Doak may require careful management, Marcus Forss is making a timely return to action.
Though he did not make the bench over the weekend, he has had two extended runouts for the under-21s following a long-term injury and will go to QPR on Tuesday evening. “For sure, they’re all eager to make an impact,” Carrick stated.
“That’s the benefit of having a solid team. We have good players, but when I name the team, not everyone can play. But it’s because of the squad that we’re convinced we can succeed.
“The objective for everyone is to use the competition, perform well in training and matches, and seize any possibilities that arise. Hopefully, they will keep striving to be a little bit better.”
