Joe Gelhardt could become new Rangers goal machine amid Leeds United striker transfer speculation at Ibrox

In the midst of transfer rumors involving Leeds United strikers, Joe Gelhardt might emerge as Rangers’ new goal machine at Ibrox.

We’re excited to have Derek Ferguson, a former Ibrox star, as our exclusive Rangers columnist. Every week, he’ll share his thoughts on the most talked-about topics in Govan.

Derek Ferguson encouraged the scouting team to keep looking for “wee diamonds” on the market, saying he would “absolutely love it” if Joe Gelhardt became the man to score goals for Rangers on a regular basis.

Rangers are interested in 21-year-old out-of-favour Leeds attacker Gelhardt during the January transfer window, according to a report by Simon Jones in the Daily Mail back on January 8.

Given that Leeds is unable to approve any additional international credit agreements, this step appears to be complex (Yorkshire Evening Post, 19 January).

Although the former Rangers player admits he doesn’t know much about Gelhardt as a player, if he were the one to start scoring goals, Ferguson would have no problem with him heading to Ibrox.

“I don’t know too much about him; most weekends I’m out covering Scottish football, so my concentration’s in that,” he stated in an interview with Ibrox News.

We need a goal scorer if his name keeps coming up, which is why we have all these guys and scouts watching different leagues and players across the nation.

“You speak of setting an example for the others, but all we really need is someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.”

The final third is the business end, and we need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net. If that youngster can do that, please bring him to the club. Under Clement, he has demonstrated that he is highly organized, from back to middle.

Guys like that occasionally simply need the chance to play with better players, if you can put it that way. I don’t know anything about him, which is why these people are being paid to search around the nation for these tiny jewels.

In other Rangers news, this month will see the departure of one player from Ibrox.
