Dallas Cowboys Asset Could Be The Solution For Green Bay Packers’ Defense After Joe Barry Firing.
Could it be that someone who works for the Dallas Cowboys is the answer to the dismal defense that the Green Bay Packers, who were once coached by Joe Barry, have?Due to the former Packers standout cornerback Al Harris’s resume from his time in Arlington, Matt Schneidman and Dianna Russini of The Athletic named Harris as a candidate for the open defensive coordinator position in Green Bay.
With the NFL record for most pick sixes in a season, Dallas cornerback DaRon Bland was chosen a first-team All-Pro this season under Harris’ guidance. With 69 interceptions since Harris took over as the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach in 2020, the unit is tied for second in the NFL.
Oh, and Harris spent eight seasons with the Packers from 2003 to 2010, winning two Pro Bowls and being named to the second team All-Pro. For that reason, he is also inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame.
Should The Green Bay Packers Look in the Direction Of Al Harris in Finding a Replacement for Joe Barry?
Harris has been the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach since the 2020 season. In 2023, the Cowboys had the sixth-best defense against the air, as they allowed just 192.1 passing yards per game and also were sixth in terms of interception rate with a 3.21 percent clip. Those can be partly attributed to Harris, who played seven seasons with the Packers from 2003 to 2010.
This is also not just the first time that Harris’ name has entered conversations as a potential future defensive coordinator for the Packers. Back in December, Peter Bukowski of The Leap wished for a Harris-Packers reunion.
I’m not generally into wishcasting for reunions being a good idea just because they’re reunions, but I’d be up for Al Harris as the next DC in Green Bay. You knew from his days as a player he could be a good coach someday. Mix of defensive backgrounds too.

Although I don’t usually believe in wishing reunions well just because they’re reunions, I would be cool with Al Harris taking over as Green Bay’s next DC. You always suspected that he would make an excellent coach when he was still a player. a variety of defensive experiences as well.
