When other teams are looking for an offensive coordinator, they should keep an eye on the Steelers’ interim play-caller and quarterbacks coach.

According to insider Ian Rapoport, Mike Sullivan, the quarterbacks coach, is being considered by the Saints and Raiders as an offensive coordinator, meaning the Packers could lose another coach this summer.

Sullivan joined the Steelers in 2021, working with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in his final season before coaching and developing 2022 first-

round pick Kenny Pickett. Midway through the 2023 season, the Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada, and Sullivan was named the team’s play-caller, with running backs coach Eddie Faulkner serving as the team’s interim coordinator.

Sullivan was in his 19th season of NFL play in 2023. Prior to joining the Steelers, the coach had stints with the Jaguars, Giants (twice), Buccaneers,

and Broncos. Although Sullivan worked as an offensive coordinator for both Tampa Bay and New York, he never stayed with either organization for

more than two seasons. With the Giants, he has had greater success as a positional coach, taking home two Super Bowl rings—one as the wide receivers coach and the other as the quarterbacks coach.

As noted by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Sullivan has previous experience working with both Derek and David Carr, possibly explaining the Saints’ interest.

Despite the Steelers also needing a new offensive coordinator this offseason following the firing of Matt Canada, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin told the media earlier this month that the team will be looking outside the organization for a new coordinator, leaving Sullivan and Faulkner out of the mix.

In the event that Sullivan leaves the Steelers, Pittsburgh will have to replace a number of departures from their staff this offseason.Strength and

conditioning coach Marcel Pastoor departed the Steelers yesterday after 23 years in the position, and offensive assistant Genn Thomas resigned

earlier this month to take a position as a quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator at Nebraska.

Regarding the Steelers, they recently had interviews with Zac Robinson, the quarterbacks coach for the Rams, for the open offensive coordinator position.
