Let the New York Jets start their free-agent hiring process.
Sauce Gardner responded to an earlier Twitter inquiry from a fan asking which free agents the team should sign this
offseason. The question was posted on X. “Calvin Ridley & Tee [Higgins],” he retorted.
Jets and Gardner Are on the Same Page Heading Into 2024
In a column posted on Sunday, January 21, Rich Cimini of ESPN said, “The Jets are
hoping to make a significant addition at receiver through trade, free agency or the
draft.” Higgins or Ridley would certainly check off the box for “significant addition” if
the Jets added either this offseason.
This summer, both players are expected to be unrestricted free agents.
The 29-year-old Ridley recently finished his fifth season in the pros. He was
suspended for 2022 because he placed bets on NFL games.
Higgins, 25, recently finished his fourth year in the workforce. Being selected in the second round of the draft, the
former Clemson player was available on the open market before Ridley. After the first round, there is no fifth-year
team option attached to any draft selection.
The Jets would have to consider a number of factors before selecting one over the other. Though far less experienced
than Ridley, Higgins is younger.
Nine touchdown receptions and 1,374 receiving yards were part of Ridley’s greatest performance, which featured 90
receptions. In his four seasons as a professional, Higgins has never even gone close to matching those numbers.
This is a developing story and we’ll provide new details as they become available.
