Sheffield United ‘keen’ on battling Burnley and Blackburn Rovers for £17m forward as shock reunion mooted

Sheffield United are apparently interested in bringing Oli McBurnie back to Bramall Lane on loan.

McBurnie departed South Yorkshire in the summer after joining from Swansea City for £17 million five years ago.

The 28-year-old sought new pastures in Spain and signed with La Liga club Las Palmas. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions since his transfer, scoring twice.

Burnley and Blackburn Rovers have lately expressed interest in a loan deal for McBurnie, who gained promotion from the Championship with Sheffield United in 2023.

According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, the Blades are considering a deal following their recent takeover, as they have provided funding to facilitate it.

McBurnie, a renowned face in Yorkshire, began his career at Bradford City after joining the club from Leeds United’s academy.

He then played for Barnsley, where he scored nine goals in 17 games after joining on loan from Swansea.

Sheffield United signed him in 2019, and he scored 29 goals in 159 appearances for the Blades.

When asked about his departure from Bramall Lane in September, McBurnie stated, “Obviously, I was a free agent in the summer.” It’s one of them; I was constantly in communication with Sheffield United.

“I’d been there for five years, and while I loved everything about it, I was looking for a new challenge. There was always a part of me that wanted to resign there, but I felt it was safer.”
