Reporter tips AC Milan target to instead join Leeds United or Sheffield United

Reporter advice Instead, AC Milan wants to sign with Sheffield United or Leeds United.

Reporter Luke Edwards of the Daily Telegraph has picked Leeds United to face Sheffield United in the competition for Ben Godfrey.

Fourth in the Championship standings is Leeds United. With nine Championship points out of a possible nine, the distance to the automatic promotion slots has shrunk to five points.

At the very least, Daniel Farke’s team should make the playoffs, but a straight-up promotion back to the Premier League is not out of the question.

The 26-year-old Godfrey has only appeared in three meaningful matches for Everton this season in all competitions. He played in just 13 Premier League games the last time around, so it makes sense that he is being linked to a move elsewhere.

Leeds United, AC Milan, and Sheffield United were the teams who were reportedly interested in signing the defender. However, an update indicates that Sheffield United and Leeds United will now compete for his signature.

Edwards remarked, speaking on the Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast (via Needs All Over):

Thus, there are three choices. Without a doubt, my choice would always be AC Milan. But I think Sheffield United and Leeds United will go straight to a shootout in this one.

It’s one of those arguments that football fans may participate in. These three clubs have extremely varied requirements, standards, and circumstances. It’s an excellent three-way option, in my opinion.

An unexpected result

It’s rare for English athletes to play overseas, and Edwards obviously doesn’t believe Godfrey will.

Even if they may play in the Champions League, he thinks Sheffield United and Farke’s team have a better chance this month.

It’s a gamble because both teams could wind up in the Championship the following season. But compared to playing for AC Milan, Godfrey is virtually certain to get more playing time at the Blades or the Whites.

The only option for the 26-year-old to turn his career around is for him to play consistent minutes. He would be an asset to both Chris Wilder and Farke’s teams because of his wealth of Championship and elite level experience from his time at both Norwich City and Everton.
