John Lundstram contract verdict emerges ahead of Mohamed Diomande transfer to Rangers

The John Lundstram contract decision is made before Mohamed Diomande joins Rangers.

Joshua Barrie has maintained that despite his hefty salary and Mohamed Diomande’s imminent arrival, Rangers should offer John Lundstram a new deal.

The Rangers Review journalist claimed that, out of the five Rangers players whose contracts are set to expire in the summer, Lundstram is the one he would offer a new deal.

He maintained that the midfield player has proven himself worthy of a new contract during his time at Ibrox, and that Rangers would have the upper hand in negotiating the terms because Lundstram is keen to stay in Glasgow.

When asked whether Diomande’s presence will have an impact on the new contract, Barrie said, “Rangers have, what, five players out of contract?” in an interview with The Rangers Review on January 22. The only person I believe I would consider giving a contract to is John Lundstram.

“Not entirely assured, as Lundstram is a Premier League player and likely earns a very high salary.”

“He’s had some incredible performances, particularly for the Rangers in important games. He’s a tremendous talker on the team and a leader in the making.

“I think Lundstram has proven himself worthy of a new contract. Given the parameters, one would think that Rangers would have the upper hand in this negotiation because Lundstram wants to stay.

Make him sign a new contract.

Lundstram’s contract should be signed throughout the remainder of the season, and this should be a top priority at Ibrox. Under Philippe Clement, he has been among the most reliable players and has merited a new contract.

The wisest course of action would be to play the two in midfield together despite Diomande’s impending arrival. The two play different roles and positions in the team, so one shouldn’t have to be sacrificed in favor of the other.

There’s no set deadline for when they may conclude this deal, so January transfers may take priority. However, Lundstram would now be willing to discuss relocating abroad should such a plan come to pass.

Although the player is keen, the board must still seal the transaction. Since Lundstram previously said in an interview that he would take a contract if one was offered, it will be obvious who is at fault if they are unable to do so.
