Pundit thinks £3m Rangers target is ‘better striker than Cyriel Dessers’

Michael Stewart comments on Lawrence Shankland to Rangers
Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is reportedly a target for Rangers, according to reports from a few days ago.
According to Sky Sports, a Rangers deal is possible but might need certain players to cut back on their salary first.
According to sources, Shankland is ready to turn down Hearts’ offer of a new contract in order to remain at the club. Hearts are reportedly looking for about £3 million for Shankland.
Rangers seem to have a good chance of making a deal here, and analyst Michael Stewart believes the decision makes sense.
Stewart asserted on Viaplay that Shakland is “certainly” a superior striker over Dessers, the current Rangers front man.
Stewart feels that he has seen enough of Dessers to know that Rangers need another option in the final third, and thinks Shankland can make the step up.
Stewart believes Shankland will “cost a fair bit of money,” though, which might make a January transaction a little more difficult.

Answering the question of whether Shankland could step up to the Rangers, Stewart said, “I think he could.” Hearts’ viewpoint is that they don’t want to lose him. He will come with a hefty price tag, but Rangers If they weren’t considering someone like Lawrence Shankland, I would be shocked.
Shankland is a proven goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership after smashing 37 goal in 58 games for Hearts.
Rangers have sometimes been guilty of not pouncing on Scottish Premiership talent, so looking at Shankland rather than another import does make sense.
Paying another handsome seven-figure fee for a striker who is only 28 months older than Dessers was when he signed would be our concern.
Shankland’s addition would raise long-term questions, and those deals usually don’t add much to a team’s resale value.
Tynecastle and Ibrox have quite different goals in mind, but Shankland—a lifelong Rangers supporter—would surely be pleased with the trade.
Though there aren’t many players right now who can rival Shankland, Rangers may decide to go for a proven Scottish Premiership striker after squandering a lot of cash on strikers during the summer.
